TriageLens addresses a simple but important gap in emergency care: triage happens at a single moment, but a patient’s condition can keep changing while they wait. In crowded emergency departments, not every patient can be continuously connected to a bedside monitor, which means meaningful physiological changes may be noticed later than they should be.

TriageLens is designed to help nurses, emergency staff, and patients in waiting-room or intake settings where continuous monitoring is limited. Using an ordinary RGB camera, the system tracks multiple patients independently and analyzes subtle color changes in facial regions to estimate pulse through remote photoplethysmography. It also evaluates signal quality in real time, so if a patient is moving too much or the measurement becomes unreliable, the system abstains instead of displaying a misleading vital sign.

Once enough trustworthy data is collected, TriageLens builds a patient-specific baseline and watches for sustained changes over time. Rather than attempting to diagnose a disease, it flags meaningful physiological deviations and recommends human reassessment.

The potential impact is a low-cost, camera-based monitoring layer that could help clinical teams identify changing patients sooner, prioritize reassessment more effectively, and extend awareness beyond the initial triage snapshot.
